Malaysia’s national Hari Sukan Negara 2026 celebration at Bukit Jalil, scheduled for Saturday, 10 October, has been postponed because of haze. KBS said a new date would depend on air quality recovering sufficiently for outdoor activities, according to RTM’s report on 9 October at 11:30 am.

Anyone planning to attend should check the latest organiser announcement before travelling. An earlier event poster or saved itinerary may still show the original date.

Which celebrations are affected?

KBS’s announcement, as reported by RTM, also listed these areas as postponing their celebrations:

  • Kuala Lumpur and Selangor
  • Johor, Kedah and Pulau Pinang
  • Negeri Sembilan and Melaka

Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan, Perlis, Perak, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan were listed as proceeding as planned. State and other local arrangements remain subject to local conditions and the relevant administrations. This is therefore not a blanket postponement of every Hari Sukan Negara activity nationwide.

Johor had already announced a state and district postponement

Johor’s official Media Digital Johor report dated 8 October confirmed that its state and district celebrations would be deferred because of haze and deteriorating air quality. The state event had been planned for Hutan Bandar Mutiara Rini, with participation targeted from all ten districts.

That report said organisers and relevant agencies would determine a new date and time and announce them later. It illustrates why checking the organiser for your particular location matters: local announcements can have their own timing and arrangements.

What to check before changing your plans

  • Confirm the specific event. Match the venue and organiser in your registration or invitation to the latest notice.
  • Wait for a confirmed replacement date. “Postponed” does not provide a new date by itself. Avoid sharing an unofficial date as settled.
  • Check practical arrangements separately. If you booked transport, accommodation or a separately organised activity, read that provider’s change conditions. An event announcement does not establish another company’s refund policy.
  • Pass on the current notice. If friends or a group are travelling together, send the dated announcement rather than an old promotional poster.

Has a new national date been announced?

The national announcement reported by RTM did not name one. Check KBS’s official channels and your event organiser for the replacement schedule. Keep the original booking details handy when asking about any change.

This update reflects announcements checked on the afternoon of 9 October 2026, Malaysian time. It reports event arrangements rather than live air-quality readings. Check again before departure because local notices may change.
