The UEFA Nations League 2026/27 opens its league phase on 24 September 2026. For football readers in Malaysia, the useful starting point is not just a list of famous teams: it is knowing which group a match belongs to, which date applies locally and how the result changes the table.

This guide explains the opening schedule, home-and-away group matches and the points rules. It is a tournament explainer, not a live score feed; check the linked official fixture page for individual match updates.

When is the 2026/27 Nations League league phase?

The opening four matchdays run across a longer international window, followed by two more matchdays in November. UEFA lists the following matchday windows:

  • Matchday 1: 24–26 September 2026.
  • Matchday 2: 27–29 September 2026.
  • Matchday 3: 30 September–3 October 2026; 30 September is an exceptional scheduling date.
  • Matchday 4: 4–6 October 2026.
  • Matchday 5: 12–14 November 2026.
  • Matchday 6: 15–17 November 2026.

These are UEFA’s tournament date windows, not a converted Malaysian timetable. A European evening fixture can fall on the following calendar day in Malaysia. Before setting an alarm, check the specific fixture’s displayed time zone and the date in your own calendar.

Where should you check fixtures and updates?

Use UEFA’s official league-phase fixture list to find a matchday and pairing. The opening day includes Netherlands against Germany and Portugal against Wales. Those examples identify fixtures, not predictions or confirmed results.

A saved screenshot can lose useful context. When checking a match, keep the competition name, team names, matchday, date and time-zone label together. Reopen the source before kick-off rather than relying on an old forwarded graphic. This guide does not identify a Malaysian broadcaster or promise free streaming access.

How are leagues and groups different?

The Nations League is a competition between national teams, not a club tournament. The 2026/27 edition has Leagues A, B, C and D, with groups inside those leagues. A label such as A3 means Group 3 in League A; it is not a round number.

For example, Spain, Croatia, England and Czechia are in A3, while Portugal, Denmark, Norway and Wales are in A4. Use UEFA’s competition overview for the full group list and the routes beyond the league phase. The top two teams in each League A group progress to the quarter-finals.

How do group-stage points work?

Under Article 14 of the competition regulations, each team meets every other team in its group once at home and once away. A win earns three points, a draw one and a defeat none.

In a four-team group, that means six matches per team. As a simple example, two wins and one draw produce seven points: 3 + 3 + 1. This example explains the arithmetic; it is not a current team’s record. A table’s points column therefore measures accumulated results, not goals scored.

What if teams finish level on points?

Do not automatically rank tied teams by their overall goal difference. UEFA’s Article 15 starts with points earned in matches between the tied teams, followed by goal difference and goals scored in those meetings.

If teams remain tied, the regulations describe when those head-to-head tests are reapplied and which further criteria follow. That is why a final table can look surprising when you inspect only the overall goals columns. Use the official standings and full rule sequence for a multi-team tie; a partial screenshot may omit the deciding information.

A quick matchday checklist

  1. Confirm that the fixture is for the 2026/27 Nations League.
  2. Check the teams, league and group before reading the table.
  3. Verify the kick-off time zone and Malaysian calendar date.
  4. After the match, distinguish a live score from a final result.
